Coronavirus India latest news update: Total coronavirus cases in India have crossed the 74,000 mark while COVID 19 deaths in the country are over 2400. According to data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India now stands at 74,281, with 47,480 active cases and 24,385 inpatients / discharged patients. 2415 people have died and one has escaped.

A Health Ministry official said the recovery rate in the country is 31 percent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has indicated that the lockdown could be extended from May 17 onwards. However, states may be given some more leeway. Meanwhile, Indian Railways has resumed passenger train operations on select routes. Discussions are on whether the domestic flight service will also be started after 17 May.

The global hunt for the coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine continues even as large parts of the world are waging a war against the highly contagious disease. There are 4,175,284 confirmed coronavirus viruses worldwide. According to data from the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, 2,85,971 people have died due to COVID 19 so far.
