Big Breaking: Indian government bans 59 Chinese apps including Tik-Tok.

Today, the Indian government has officially banned a Chinese app that bans 60 apps. Some applications are relatively unknown, but some of them are incredibly popular, including event Tiktok around the world.

We learned the news via Twitter, but we heard about the Chinese app ban in the country two weeks ago.

In a statement on the case, the Ministry of Electronics and IT states that the apps under consideration are "engaged in activities that are prejudicial to India's sovereignty and integrity, defense of India, security of the state and public order." You can see the tweet where we got this information along with the full details in the pictures below:

Unfortunately, although this statement clarifies which apps are part of this Chinese app ban, it is not at all clear how India will implement this new policy. As far as we can tell, all of the above apps are still available on the Google Play Store and will continue to work on people's phones, which have already been downloaded.

In addition, some of the applications above are stock apps that come with devices, specifically Xiaomi-branded apps. With the removal of the play store, it will be difficult to remove stock apps like these, so will the phone itself get banned?

It is very possible that this is only a symbolic ban, but we have reached out to Google to find out if the company has any plans to comply with this new Chinese app ban in India. We will let you know if the company returns to us with a statement.

In the meantime, if you're in India and using one of the above applications, you're technically in violation of the ban - but, without any listed consequences for doing so, we don't know How serious is this "crime".
