Intel To Launch Its Super-Efficient 5.0GHz Core i9-9900KS CPU On October 30
There are only a handful of CPUs that can achieve 5GHz clock speed. Intel will soon join the league with the launch of its next-generation flagship chipset -- the Intel Core i9-9900KS. The new CPU will retail for $513 which a bit more expensive than the base model. The Intel Core i9-9900KS is not a new chipset, instead, it is based on the i9-9900K with eight cores and 16 hyper threads with 16MB L3 cache. The chipset does support PCI-Express 3.0 and DDR4 RAM with up to 2,666MHz.
One of the unique features of the Intel Core i9-9900KS is that all sixteen cores can run at 5.0GHz and this is the first consumer base chipset to achieve this feat. Do note that this CPU can achieve 5.0GHz clock speed without being overclocked. The CPU is likely to hit higher clock speeds when overclocked.
The company will only be making a limited number of this chipset which will go on sale from October 30.
As the Intel Core i9-9900KS is a 9th Gen chipset it is still based on a 14nm manufacturing process, whereas most of the recently launched Intel chipsets are based on 10nm fabrication that consumes less power and offers higher performance/watt and the chipset comes with a TDP of 125W.
According to Geekbench 5 listing, the Intel Core i9-9900KS scores 1409 points on single-core and 9156 points on multi-core CPU performance making it one of the best Intel chipsets on both single-core and multi-core performance without overclocking.
Though these numbers look promising, the upcoming Comet Lake CPUs based on 10nm fabrication is likely to go official in early 2020 and will offer better performance. If you already own the Intel Core i9-9900K then the i9-9900KS will not be a much of an upgrade. Similarly, it is best to wait until 2020 (two more months) to get the next-generation Intel CPUs with better performance and efficiency.
